## Current Programs

### Math Gap Summer Program

The purpose of this program is to bridge the gap between the previous year's math program in school and next year's math program. Who might be interested in this program:

- Students who struggle with math and want to be better prepared for next year's math program.
- Students who had a "bad" experience in the previous year's math class and missed out on some or all of the math concepts.
- Transfer students who feel a need to be better prepared for the new school's math program.
- Home schoolers.
- Adults wanting to go back to college who feel a need to review their math skills.

**Note: To cut costs, as many as 3 students can participate in the Math Gap program at a time, collectively paying $30 per hour for the tutoring. However, the students participating must be from the same school and wanting the same "Math Gap" program. **
### Math Liaison Program

This program serves two purposes:

- To help parents and child determine and/or understand the present and future math program based on the child's needs (as recommended by the school).
- To determine a tutoring program appropriate to the child's needs in order to reach goals set by the parents and the school.

The steps involved in this program are:

- Contact the ezLearnMath Advisor to discuss the child's present/future math program.
- Give the ezLearnMath Advisor permission to contact the teacher and/or give the teacher permission to contact the ezLearnMath Advisor.
- Consult with ezLearnMath Advisor relative to recommendations for the child's math tutoring program to help the child reach academic goals.

**Price:** $50 flat fee for service, unless more than 2 hours involvement.

### Tutoring

The purpose of tutoring is to help students understand the basic concepts of a subject in order to make connections with the subject's assignments and assessments.
Here is how the online tutoring session works.

- The student initiates the tutoring by filling out the information on the Home screen.
- It will be received by an ezLearnMath Advisor and a phone call will be made to the parent/guardian of the student to qualify the student's needs and set up an appointment with a tutor. At this time the parent/student will receive a more thorough explanation on how to follow through with the appointment.
- The student interacts with the tutor through the computer using videoconferencing software.
- The videoconferencing software enables the student to see the tutor's screen or vice versa.
- The student will have the option to Skype while working with the tutor.
- The math work will be done using a Microsoft Word document on which the tutor writes the work the student and tutor do together. The assignment for the session can be made available to the tutor through the following options:
- Send a copy of the assignment to the tutor
- Show assignment from your screen which appears on Schoology or other academic hub offered by student’s school
- Take a picture of the assignment and send the picture via cell phone
- Read off the problems to the tutor
**Note:** If there is a personalized program in place for the student, as agreed upon by an ezLearnMath Advisor, there will be no need to send any work

**
**
- A copy of the math work will be sent to the student after completion of the tutoring session.
- An evaluation form is offered for parent/guardian and/or student to be filled out (optional).

### For Adults: Review Course for the College Math Placement Test

**Want to go to college? 2 Facts about Remedial Math courses in college:**
Prior to enrolling in classes at many colleges/universities a student must take a math placement test, e.g., Compass or Accuplacer. This test determines in which course you must start your math journey in college. If you are placed in the remedial or developmental math track, this means that your college education will cost more, you earn no credit for these courses toward your major area of study, and you can delay entry to college-level math classes for one to 2 years.

Below are 2 interesting facts for adults wanting to go to college: (from the web page: "Improving College Completion-Reforming Remedial Education," Fast Facts n.d. )

- The need for remediation is widespread. When considering all first-time undergraduates, studies have found anywhere from 28 percent to 40 percent of students enroll in at least one remedial course. When looking at only community college students, several studies have found remediation rates surpassing 50 percent.
- Nontraditional adults comprise a significant portion of remedial students. Adults who have been out of high school for some time and are returning to college to earn a degree or receive job training often need to take remedial courses to brush up on their math, reading or writing skills. More than 42 million Americans ages 18 to 64 do not hold a postsecondary degree and would likely need remediation if they pursue one.

**Review Course for the College Math Placement Test**
Because the math placement test is a high-stakes test, we strongly recommend that you review your math skills in order to prevent placement in the remedial courses. We are offering a 12-hour course, running 2 times a week, for 6 weeks. The options available to you are:

- 1 participant @ $540
- 2 participants simultaneously @ $270 for each participant
- 3 participants simultaneously @ $180 for each participant

**Note:** You can invite 1 or 2 friends to share the cost or wait until we find 1 to 2 students to take the course with you.

**The subjects covered are:**
- Addition/Subtraction/Multiplication and Division of integers, fractions, decimals
- Order of Operation
- Word problems
- Pre-Algebra
